Course on GIS, Remote Sensing and GEONETCast Undertaken by SADC - THEMA

Gaborone, July 1, 2010: A total of19 participants from seven different SADC countries successfully concluded a Distance Education Course on “GIS, Remote Sensing and GEONETCast” on June 25th 2010. The course, which began on May 17, 2010, was undertaken in the framework of the Southern African Development Community Thematic Action (SADC THEMA) of the African Monitoring of Environment for Sustainable Development (AMESD). AMESD in Southern-Africa aims to empower SADC and its member states to manage their agricultural and environmental resources in a sustainable way.

Gaborone, May 5, 2010: The African Union Commission, through the European Union, has awarded a grant contract of EUR 1, 846, 000 to the implementing partner Botswana Department of Meteorological Services (BDMS) - the Department of Meteorology within the Ministry of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism of Botswana. The agreement was signed on Wednesday, 5th May 2010, in the BDMS Headquarters in Gaborone. Representatives from the BDMS, the African Union Commission, EUMETSAT, WMO and the AMESD Program Coordination Team attended the signing ceremony. The signing of the grant contract marked the end of the preparatory phase and the official commencement of a three years implementation project, up to the 5th May 2013.
