Sebele, Botswana:A Satellite Receiving Station is installed in the Botswana College of Agriculture (BCA) through the framework of African Monitoring of Environment for Sustainable Development (AMESD). The Satellite Receiving Station was officially launched by the Acting Principal of the BCA, Mr Ditshoke L. Monametsi, at a ceremony held in 15 July 2010 in Sebele, Botswana. The ceremony was attended by the Director of Botswana Department of Meteorological Services, Mr Phetolo Phage, Dean of Faculty of Agriculture at BCA, Prof. Elemino B. Khonga, SADC-THEMA Project Leader, Mr. Isaac Kusane, and by participants of the SADC-THEMA Kick-Off workshop which was held at the University of Botswana from 13-15 July, 2010.

AMESD IGAD THEMA Kicks Off

Nairobi, Kenya (29 July 2010):The AMESD IGAD Kick off Workshop, which was organized by the IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC) - an intergovernmental organization of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), took place in Nairobi, Kenya, from 21st - 23rd July 2010at Intercontinental Hotel. The workshop marks the official start of the regional action on land degradation and natural habitat conservation, and paves the way to the three years implementation, up to the 10th May 2013, of the AMESD IGAD regional action.
The workshop gave the opportunity in officially presenting to the national, regional and international partners the future services and products that they will be using once developed, reviewing in depth the implementation plan and activities and discussing cross-cutting issues such as satellite data access and capacity building.

20 Juillet 2010 (Réunion Island, France): L’école d’été en océanographie a été tenu le lundi 12 au 17 juillet 2010 à l’Université de La Réunion. Des étudiants et jeunes scientifiques de toute la région Sud-Ouest de l’océan Indien ont été accueillis pour cette formation. Autour de la gestion de la pêche et des ressources marines, plusieurs thèmes étaient abordés par des spécialistes venus spécialement du Kenya, d’Afrique du Sud ou encore des Seychelles.
